Thoughtful update until DAVID HELPS WITH WORDPRESS ::coughcough::
Yeah, so I'm figuring that hundreds of thousands of my blogging fans are anxiously awaiting my newest post.
Here it is.
Quiet, cheering masses, for you will not be able to hear my idiocy over the sounds of your own voices! Be quiet, or may the stupidity of my words which stand like mighty sandcastles created by master craftsmen (toddlers and a bucket) be washed away by the tides of your voices!
Why won't they listen? I sit here and talk and talk and no one cares to hear?
Oh. I know what to do.
::hands God the internal microphone:: Hit that Jerry 5:14, Lord.

Been a long time coming, this entry has...
So. I'm officially in the dorms, officially a college student, and officially scared to death. Oh well, what does it matter?
I really don't want to work to hard on anything involving this as I want to get my WordPress on friedriches.net up and running, but I will be posting some pics tomorrow night. IDK, maybe tomorrow morning.
It's been a very hectic week, sorry for the lack of any sort of posts, relevant or mindless drivel alike.
Plan on some big-time stuff in the coming weeks, because after that, I'll be (hopefully) in STUDY MODE.
Oh yeah. My "new" xbox rox (eww what a gay play on words) thanks to wes and my boy drew. Who knew ppl from AP could be so helpful? :p
Anyways, like I said- more later. As it is, I'm TURRRED.

Three posts in a day....
I just purchased www.friedriches.net though Globat.
So, this is still just my temporary home.
I'm looking to make friedriches.net more of a total-richified experience, including photos, a blog, links, and all the other stuff on here, just in a more personalized format. I think I already have a kinda-logo, but it's still in the works. Right now I'm working with teal and blue, but who knows where it may end up?
Lord Jesus, help me to stay focused on You. That's all I need right now- focus on the prize, the long-term gratification.
STOP BEING SO IMPULSIVE, ME!

AGHH. I had to post again after this.
I was just surfing TV, and happened across this episode of VH1's "The Fabulous Life." I could only watch for just a few minutes, it was so disgusting. Monetary figures, names, AGHH! It made me want to scream. All these gossip columnists coming on talking about "religious, spiritual" stars.
Why do Americans want to watch this garbage? Are they really that unhappy with their lives that their lives are enriched by watching these people spend $200,000 "going on a pilgrimage to the Scientology's cruise ship." Paying to dance to high-energy music, feeling like that's getting you closer to God? People, these people are not happy. They just have money and are spending it desparately trying to find the happiness that is ironically so close in reach.
NEWS FLASH TO THE WORLD: Nothing you can do or spend will get you closer to Heaven. It says so in the Bible. You are imperfect. Jesus, by sacrificing himself on the cross, conpleting the ultimate sacrifice, did the only thing that could be done. He now stands between you and God for all of your many imperfections. Just so you don't think I'm preaching from a high pedastal- He and I both know that I need it just as much as the next guy.
Aghh, that show just makes me so sad that people do that kind of thing. $200,000? I'm sure that could run a homeless shelter for a few years. Isn't that fufilling enough?
The word "religion" is being tossed around like it actually means something good. This is exactly why that word is the foundation of all that is wrong in faith in the world today. Religion is why there are conflicts all around the world. Religion is why America is so screwed up, with such confusion and searching...
There are rules in faith, yes. However, that doesn't mean that you should follow the rules set before you by humanity like a blind sheep. Read religious texts- decide what you agree with, what speaks to you. Ask questions. If Christianity doesn't seem right to you, I can only feel sadness because I believe that it is the one Way. But nothing that I could say to you will convince you otherwise. All I can do, and other Christians, is live a Christ-like life before you, and hope to lead by that example.
If only that was the way it really is.
EDIT: I was lucky enough to go back just now and hear this:
"And as super-holy stars know, the bigger your cross, the bigger you are to God."
"Kanye West had his Jesus face pendant released for the masses. The rich masses."

Semi-Movie Review - Dukes of Hazzard
I saw Dukes of Hazzard tonight, despite the reviews. I went in for one reason, and one reason alone.
NO, not for Jessica Simpson, you freak.
I went to see LSU and Louisiana in general. However, the joke, it appears, is on me, I am happy to say that I came out extremely suprised with what I came out thinking.
I was ready for weak acting, lame jokes, and over-the-top and poorly coordinated driving scenes/stunts. The acting was, aside from Johnny Noxville (sp?), was horrible. Jessica Simpson- stick to commercials and MTV, cause that was horrible. The rest, contrary to my expectations, was actually good. After the first 15 minutes, that is. Those sucked.
The jokes were actually funny, especially the fight stuff. There were actually subtle jokes, those unspoken kind, that were laugh-out-loud funny. The driving scenes were insane, some of the best I've seen in a while. The editing of the driving sequences especially impressed me. I read an article in last months's Car and Driver that told of a new device that was used in the shooting of the driving scenes that replaces the front of the car. I think that added a whole lot to the scenes in that they were shot in ways not normally seen in a movie.
And for those males- wow. WOW. Bouncing eyes, gentlemen.
Oh, and its REALLY cool to see Louisiana all over the screen. That's what made the movie for me. My dad and I were laughing the whole time they were at LSU, and everyone in the theater was like, "What's wrong with you two?" I was like, stupid Colorodans.
Go see this. Now. (If you're over... I'd say, 18.)

After-action report - 2005/8/7
Today, after Dad and I watched a couple of movies on cable in the early AM, we headed towards some state park up in the foothills of the Spanish Peaks. We took the 600cc Grizzly ATV up an ATV trail to the top, and then hiked about half of the remaining distance towards the summit before deciding to head back down cause of rainclouds.
I carved and A, a cross, and "05" in a dead tree trunk on the way back down (there are pictures below).
Tonight, I learned how to make stew, starting with the rue. After that, who knows? Probably a movie. I told Dad I'd go with him into the field tomorrow, but ahh, I'm such a bum.
I'll post later on how amazing God's creation- the mountains- is. But now it's dinner time.

Profile shot of my dad hiking, he noticed me at the last second, but I wish I had him walking.

I felt like I should leave my mark in a dead tree trunk, to commemmorate my climbing the mountain.

It's amazing how much I don't know about computers, the internet and related stuff, especially when you consider just how much more I know than... I'd say 80% (to be fair) of the world.
PHP? HTML? RSS? XML? WTH?
Just give me Photoshop and a decent game, and I'll be quite happy, thanks. I'll leave IT to the IT guys. Oh, and thank goodness for templates and tools like Blogger. There'd be a lot less of me (and a whole bunch of other bloggers) if it weren't for these tools.
In a somewhat related note, my dad insists on me taking the behemoth to LSU. Scoliosis (sp?), here I come!

Feeling somewhat better following the previous post...
I just added links to friends' blogs. I've never done HTML before, so for me to figure it out is quite an accomplishment.
...well, at least I feel good.
Check 'em out, these are some of the deepest, smartest, wiedest people I know.
Since they're probably the only ones reading this, take that as a compliment.

Man....
I just flicked on SportsCenter, not really paying attention, and Scott van Pelt pseudo-sadly informed me that Sue Gunther died today.
I was shocked. My stomach turned over. I literally could cry right now.
I knew that she was sick, but I never heard of her going to the hospital again... Sigh.
I don't really know how to express why I feel so bad right now. But, I just do.
Sigh.
There goes a perfectly good pleasant feeling.

The birth of a saying.
An excerpt from an MSN conversation I had with "Drew" tonight:
|)r3w says:
one of the girls that was drinkin started askin my friend a bunch of questions b/c she ad went to a church b4 and they prayed for her and they was tryin to make her fall out under the power "pushin her around" and she got all frieked out so she started askin a bunch of questions then she just started ballin cryin!

/-\ l\l l) R 3 '// says:
like she was going to fall out?
|)r3w says:
no
/-\ l\l l) R 3 '// says:
or they were tryin to make her
/-\ l\l l) R 3 '// says:
were they being serious?
|)r3w says:
she was tellin us how they scared ger at the church they went to b/c they played for her and was like sayin all kinds of stuff about demons and things
/-\ l\l l) R 3 '// says:
ohh
/-\ l\l l) R 3 '// says:
i get it
/-\ l\l l) R 3 '// says:
well were you able to answer most of her questions/
|)r3w says:
yah
|)r3w says:
thats when she started cryin last night
|)r3w says:
and my friend prayed with her and stuff
/-\ l\l l) R 3 '// says:
did yall pray with her
|)r3w says:
it was really cool
/-\ l\l l) R 3 '// says:

|)r3w says:
like i really believe that God changed her life last night
/-\ l\l l) R 3 '// says:
3 girls from [city name] got saved when some [youth group name] kids (jr high) started talking to them and invited them to service
/-\ l\l l) R 3 '// says:
you just gotta pray she stays in it
|)r3w says:
but what was cool also was while my friend was prayin with that other girl another girl like jumped in my truck (and i have known her for like 1 hour) she just started spillin her whole life to me and we just talked for about an hour about church and stuff to
|)r3w says:
the girl i was talkin to was saved for like 6 months b4...(they were from [city name]) and this girl went to [high school name] and was really active and stuff then she said she felt liek she just lost faith and just went back to everything
/-\ l\l l) R 3 '// says:
awesome
|)r3w says:
so we talked and i tried to help her.. ya know just be a friend not pound them with convictions and stuff.. went really good
/-\ l\l l) R 3 '// says:
yeah
/-\ l\l l) R 3 '// says:
it pisses me off when people call christians "religious" or when oppertuniteis to outreach are wasted with screaming and condemnation
|)r3w says:
ME TOO!!!
/-\ l\l l) R 3 '// says:
LIKE
/-\ l\l l) R 3 '// says:

/-\ l\l l) R 3 '// says:
and religion
/-\ l\l l) R 3 '// says:
its just doctrine
/-\ l\l l) R 3 '// says:
rules made by humans to guilt people in to letting others be in charge, really
/-\ l\l l) R 3 '// says:
it just makes me want to knock on people's heads and be like, "are you alive in there?"
/-\ l\l l) R 3 '// says:
not to be anarchist or anything
/-\ l\l l) R 3 '// says:

/-\ l\l l) R 3 '// says:
that andrew dude? why wont he party? "he's religious."
/-\ l\l l) R 3 '// says:
I want them to know not because of rules set forward by humans, but laws set forward by God that dictate the way I am to live my life as His child and as a believer in His Son
|)r3w says:
yah
|)r3w says:
everybody has there own peronal convictions correct?
/-\ l\l l) R 3 '// says:

/-\ l\l l) R 3 '// says:

|)r3w says:
i hate when people try and push there convictions onto me! and say that i am not a christian b/c i dont have the same convictins as them
/-\ l\l l) R 3 '// says:
im open with the fact that i have a history of issues with porn, but for other ppl, its drinking or whatever
/-\ l\l l) R 3 '// says:
yeah
/-\ l\l l) R 3 '// says:

|)r3w says:
for instance somebody tried to tell me that i wasnt livin the righ life b/c i watch pg-13 movies
/-\ l\l l) R 3 '// says:
yeah
/-\ l\l l) R 3 '// says:
stuff that is extremist
|)r3w says:
i have no problem with it if i know the content and what not
/-\ l\l l) R 3 '// says:
on one hand- it is our goal as christians to perpetually drive towards living the lives God intended towards us, and living Christ-like lives
/-\ l\l l) R 3 '// says:
but on the other
/-\ l\l l) R 3 '// says:
we are human
|)r3w says:
right
/-\ l\l l) R 3 '// says:
and society also dictates that in a way, i think
|)r3w says:
and if God convicts me about something then yeah i will try and change that thing
/-\ l\l l) R 3 '// says:
but if i dont feel convicted about saying "crap" then i see no reason to stop
|)r3w says:
right
/-\ l\l l) R 3 '// says:
ahhh
/-\ l\l l) R 3 '// says:
i love talking about faith
/-\ l\l l) R 3 '// says:
its so deep
/-\ l\l l) R 3 '// says:
it is the instant conversation starter.
|)r3w says:
so deep yet sometimes so simple
/-\ l\l l) R 3 '// says:
people say don't talk about politics or religion
/-\ l\l l) R 3 '// says:
well fine
/-\ l\l l) R 3 '// says:
i wont talk religion
/-\ l\l l) R 3 '// says:

|)r3w says:

/-\ l\l l) R 3 '// says:
fa shooo
/-\ l\l l) R 3 '// says:
i got my own little quote-y thingy there
|)r3w says:

4 days down, 9 to go
I bought Half-Life 2 tonight.
Yeah, I know I'm late getting on the train (heck, it's been out for a year, at least) but at least I'm on it. I've been waiting for it to drop in price, and I saw it at Wal-Mart for $40. Heck, $10 is good enough for me!
So yeah, I got the new one in a much more timely manner than I did the last one.
My experimentation with BitTorrent is over for the time being. I guess I'll wait till I get to Baton Rouge so I can get it to work better with Senor David-san's help. Not a thing I tried to download ever made it all the way. So I deleted it all and am currently installing HL2.
Here's to Counter-Strike fun!

I've lost my BitTorrent virginity...
I'm trying to use BitTorrent here.
Trying being the key word. This frackin' SUCKS. 11 kb/s? Limewire does better than that. I'm missing where this is useful...
Heehee I said "frackin." I think two disks of BSG in 1 day is more than enough.

Posts of any substance have been avoiding me lately. I can't seem to find the time to actually make them. I hope that I don't look like that in life- all this fluff around nothing, no substance. I want to have substance- and I do in Christ, but I want to show it, and not just be the average Joe.
Wow, some actual substance came out of that. Kinda.

Jared Ray: Unplugged. One of the worst-selling albums of all-time. Next to Robert Conti: Comin' On Strong!

J Money out on the deck on the last day. We were watching the people on the beach do water baptism. I think the discussion at that time was baby names.

Been gone for a while, here's what's up.
Submerge was awesome. Incredible. One of the best weeks of my life. The depths to which I went with God... wow. Just, wow. I'm so glad I love Jesus. I mean, I have no real way to express the pure joy and peace that comes out of last week.
But also entirely draining. I don't think I can move. And now I'm in Colorado for the next week. Y-A-W-N.
Bought the first season of Battlestar Galactica at Best Buy today. It's the British cut (read: uncensored cut of season 1) but I'm still really confused cause I've never seen the mini-series. Everyone says it's the best show on TV. Time to find out, but so far so good.
Peace out, I'm turred like a mofo.

There is no way that this movie exists. What is "The Revenge of the Jedi" that this poster screams is a continuation of the "Star Wars Saga?"

Off to Pathfinders/Refuge Summer Camp for the week. "Submerged" is the theme.
IDK if there'll be an internet connection there, but all signs point to NO.
So peace out for a week.

Annoyed with tea
I went to Dempsy's for lunch today with Wes, Dup, Fasha, Bobert, and Dsong. (Nicknames are to protect the innocent.) I ordered sweet tea instead of Girl Coke, because I'm trying to quit drinking cokes. This tea was SO sweet, I got a horrible stomach ache, and have had "loose bowel movements" for the rest of the day. I've never tasted anything like that before. It was literally sugar water. (LOL Men In Black reference comes to mind... "Shugar whater. Edward, what are you talking about? Shugar Whater. More.") I just got to a level where I could eat the hamburger I ordered at noon.
I'm never ordering anything but unsweet tea ever again.
Ahh irrelevant posts... so much fun in giving out more info than is necessary.

7/10/05 LAN party on the Conti grounds. This is the main room. Not pictured (would be on the left): Robert's MASSIVE TV, A smaller LCD TV, and to the right, another 20-something incher. That's right- 5 TVs in one room. Plus another 6 in the back room. 12 TVs, more than 20 people. INSANE.

2nd shot of the 7/10/05 LAN party at the Conti Estate. There were 4 TVs on the right, the 2 pictured, and then one more to the left in the corner. This room was CROWDED. And, the drinks were in the fridge waaaay back there behind Lance's TV. Obstacle course, indeed.

Mid-post transition - Not nearly as depressing as a mid-life transition.
My job stinks. But at least I have one, huh?
I watched Hostage tonight, a film starring Bruce Willis. It just was released on DVD, and so I grabbed it at Blockbuster. I was impressed, but there were several things I would have done differently.
First, I don't care what rating a film has, Hollywood has been invaded by the F-bomb. I don't know who pushed the button, but every movie I go watch has umpteen-billion uses and variations of the word "f***." This film uses the word in several places that were exusable, as people tend to use it out of frustration, but not like this. Drunken sailors would be impressed by the spewing of curses from the mouthes of these capable teenage would-be car theives. The only person who didn't use the word was the 7-year old kid, but hey, he's 7. It's not like he's 13 years old, like the actors and actresses in The Butterfly Effect who know more words than my father, who knows quite a few. At least, more than me. Plus, the 10-year old form of Aston Kutcher's character gets to say it a couple of times for good measure. 10 years old, and the kid knows the word, and says it freely in a movie. I didn't know what the word until I was 11 or 12, I think. (I understand that in The Butterfly Effect a 20-something was posessing the child, but I think there was a way to get around that. It just doesn't seem right, even at the sake of a creator's vision of the film.)
Anyways, the film industry has a standard- PG-13 films are allowed one f-bomb. Hey, I have an idea! If we're going to let 13 year-old kids see the movie without a parent, let's take out ANY f-bombs! Or maybe you'd just like to give them a copy of Pam and Tommy's home video.
I just think it's time for anything that people wouldn't feel comfortable letting their children see should be given an "R" rating. If they want to see it that badly, let them go with an adult, with supervision deciding whether or not the film's ok for the child.
And union rules should cover dialouge like this. It's unexcusable. If the line the child has to read is acceptable to be said in a classroom, then the line should be deemed ok. If a line is too extreme to be said in a group of his/her peers, then it should be avoided. This could be judged by a parent, or producer, or someone, but everyone has pretty much the same standard for that, I'm sure.
Don't even get me started on the looseness which nudity is covered in film. No nip, no nudity seems to be the rule. I think that's wrong.
Anyways, onto my next criticism of Hostage. I felt, at times, that the movie was very Miramax-y, very Tarantino, very fresh and exciting. Like in the opening, it's something you totally don't expect. But, then the camera would zoom up to the top of a crane, and then I'd feel like I was watching a "Hollywood" movie. It felt very gimmicky and unoriginal, with the spotlights and police cars and everything. But then there were shots like the one of the the dude burning himself with the Malatov Cocktail, or the shot of the same character writing out "Burn it" in his own blood, that just seem so new and edgy. They were so violent, they suck you in.
The film's body damage is done well, with a dark, almost other-worldly blood. It's almost more of a dark maroon than a red. When one character is stabbed in the face, it made me cringe, and was well done.
Most of the acting was well done, and I especially liked the job of the youngest son (for someone of his age) and the youngest teenage criminal- he played his part especially well. I liked Bruce Willis's job, but some of his facial expressions at points threw me off, and I was completely drawn out of the movie and into focusing on the odd place his eyebrows were in or wide his eyes had become. I think that was something that could have been fixed and definately took away from his performance, in my eyes. My least favorite performance was that of Willis's wife. She does a poor job of acting, and reads everything very weak.
The Mars character (a great job of naming him- see the movie and you'll know what I mean) is also portrayed very well. The actor makes him seem insane, yes, and criminally so, but also deep and deadly. I liked that performance even though I hated the character, even though at first you are supposed to trust/like him, I think, though you know something's wrong with him.
The story has some decent to very good plot twists that keep you drawn in the length of the movie. This is omitting the fact that the action the boys commit is borderline ludicrous. Also, the pacing felt pretty much spot on. I never felt like it was being rushed, except for that scene involving the kids seeing and following the Escalade.
Ok I really am tired and don't feel like typing any more. I'll edit later. Pretty long for a "nothing-to-say" post.

Times like these you just wanna cry
I feel so bad right now. I was coming home from Jordan's house- which was lame- down Perkins, just taking the long way home and listening to old Coldplay. I didn't have my brights on, so I couldn't see the dog until she ran out onto the road.
I swerved to avoid her, but it was too late, and I ran right over her. I pulled over, and a cop stopped and we moved the corpse to the side of the road, and that was that. She wasn't wearing any tags or anything, so there was nothing we could do.
I still have that image of her looking back right before I hit her. She was just bouncing along, and then all of a sudden she looked back. To imagine what she saw right before she died... The noise, the lights, and the pain, and then... who knows. Sigh. I feel bad, but I couldn't cry. I tried, but the tears just weren't there.

3rd of July
I wonder just how many people know what Independence Day is really about.
I bet that the numbers are shocking. Like, 2% of the population, or some ludicrousness like that.
But of those that know, how many appreciate just what was sacrificed to give them the freedom they enjoy today?
I don't know that if I was in their place, I could have. I would probably have been a Tory.
Let's here it for the would-be Tories!

Disney Photos
The following are just a few of my photos from my trip to Walt Disney World last week. All were taken with the phone on my SMT5600, just to remember if they seem crappy. But with that in mind, some look REALLY good for a camera phone. Like the one with Grayson and Tigger, near the bottom.
I can't wait to get back there. And bring a real camera.
I can't wait to get back there. And bring a real camera.

Halfway through the trip, "Hidden Mickeys" became my obsession. Here Elizabeth and I found one of the most challenging in the park at the coffee bar inside the Polynesian Resort. We ended up finding almost all of the "level 5" (most challenging) hidden mickeys in the park.

Side view of the AT-AT. It had "exposed undercarriage" on one side, full movie dressings on the other.

That AT-AT looks so cool coming around that tree like that. We missed the "Star Wars Weekend" by a day. Darn.

I thought this light was so cool. It's in the queue for "The Great Movie Ride" inside the Chinese Theater.

See the third person from the left? The black outline? That's Andre 3000. You can't tell- but I promise that's him.

Most. Overrated. Ride. Ever. Next to Soarin', that is. That is SO USC, it's not even funny.
Posted by Picasa

Can you see the hidden Disney character in that boulder? Hint: Evil character from movie that had a "diamond in the rough."
Posted by Picasa

You can't really tell, but on the far left of that banner, holding the crystal football... yup. Its Mike Clayton. In MGM. I freakin wet myself and started screaming "LSU!" when I saw that. People were looking at me wierd, and mothers covered their children's eyes. And USC fans ran screaming.

So. Here it is. A new blog. Let's see how good this thing goes.
Facebook wasn't doing it for me. Livejournal was the only thing keeping the internet interesting anymore. But LJ got stupid.
So here we are.
I hope it's better than LJ.
